Portrait Garzweiler II ( Dirk Jansen, Bund NRW)

Dirk Jansen from Friends of the Earth Vestfalia presents the open-cast coal mine Garzweiler II. An open-pit mining leads to major impacts on nature. For 30 years, Friends of the Earth have been fighting for a mining moratorium and sustainable energy supply. The lecture will look at the ecological disaster Garzweiler II and the resistance against this project.

Bloc III – 3.00 pm

“What do you want? Climate Justice!!!” (Max Ramezani, BUNDjugend)

Since Copenhagen, no demonstration against climate change goes without this slogan: “What do you want? Climate Justice! When do you want it? Now!!!”

Surprisingly, even politicians responsible for the standstill in climate conferences use the term climate justice. That reminds us of the foreign occupation of the concept of sustainability e.g. by companies who do not work in a sustainable way at all.

What does ‘climate justice’ mean? Is it possible to come to a mutual understanding of the concept? Where is the difference to the demand Gelingt es uns, ein gemeinsames Verständnis dessen zu erlangen? Which possibilities are there for young people to get involved against climate change?

And what kind of protest should be used for climate justice? We discuss different ideas and talk about actions that we have seen or joined.

In the last years, it was possible to prevent 14 more climate killers which had been planned in Germany. In this workshop you will learn about how the resistance movement works, where it’s located, what how you can take part in it! Moreover the workshop wants connect people for future protest and actions.

Business game: World climate conference “Cooling Down!” (Dirk Ulrich, Institut für kreative Technologien und humane Entwicklung)

The facts about climate change are known, that’s not the reason why Copenhagen failed. In November, Cancun will be the next place to attempt a new World Climate Convention. However, it becomes obvious that there is not enough know-how and experience regarding global consensusdecision-making.

„Cooling down!“ is a simulation of a world climate conference. Here, everybody can learn, what it means to take responsibility for the future in the present.

“Clean Coal” as a bridge technology to Renewable Energies? (Peter Viebahn, Wuppertal Institut für Klima, Umwelt, Energie)

How much sense does is make to capture CO2 from coal-fired power stations and store it underground?

What’s behind concepts of Clean Coal or CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage)? Are they necessary to ‘bridge’ the time until Renewable Energy Sources are ready, as it is claimed by politician, economists but also by NGOs? Or do they obstruct the extension fo Renewable Energies? After an information input einführenden Vortrag sollen diese Fragen mit den Teilnehmern diskutiert werden.

Krikela

Krikela – just some key words: Antifolk and Hamburger School meet Funny von Dammen and Team Dresch and talk to each other. Relentlessly honest texts, combined with no-frill-guitar music and expressive songs. Sadness with hope-inspiring self-irony, weird humour, punky rage, wrapped in too many syllables per beat. Sad, silly, funny, critical, queer, real. You say: liedermaching, we say: DIE!!!….
